What This Is

The Long Dark Days began as a personal archive — field notes from years spent following official reports and interviewing eyewitnesses who want their stories told. It became a podcast because the accounts deserved more than just a file folder.

"The creature did not move like an animal. It moved like something that had decided to be seen."

Every episode presents documented witness testimony, regional historical context, and careful analysis. No dramatization. No manufactured suspense (except sound effects/music). These events happened to real people, and they are treated accordingly.

These Long Dark Days is independent. No network. No actors. No sponsors who require us to soften or bend conclusions.

Encounters submitted by the community. Names withheld unless otherwise requested.

Ouachita National Forest, AR March 2025

"It wasn't moving through the brush — it was standing in it. Completely still. For eleven minutes by my watch. When I looked away and looked back, it was gone. No sound. Nothing moved."

— Submitted by a trail warden, 14 years service

Upper Peninsula, Michigan November 2024

"The prints were bipedal. The stride was approximately 58 inches. I measured them twice. What I cannot account for is that they ended at the tree line, where the snow was undisturbed."

— Retired game warden, 22 years service

Smoky Mountains, TN August 2024

"Three of us heard it. We have known each other since childhood. We have not discussed it since that night. There is, to this day, no agreement on what sound it was."

— Three anonymous hikers

Cascade Range, Washington January 2025

"My dogs refused to approach the eastern tree line for three days after. They are trained for wilderness search and rescue. They have encountered bears. This was different."

— Search and rescue volunteer
